Very well said and great read again! I like to think I’m pretty left as I’m coming from NY-13 and voted for Darializa Avila Chevalier, but I’m not sure removing Tisch is the hill I’m willing to die on, especially when it feels like the movement is making so much progress this year and this would derail that. It almost like the DSA has forgotten why they actually got popular in the first place and this position they’re taking on this is making me question where I truly stand with the party

Beautifully written. Well considered.

You have a way of diving into thorn patches and pulling out roses.

Do people understand the lawsuit the city could face if Mr. Mamdani arbitrarily dismissed Ms. Tisch without due cause?

Jessica Tisch’s establishment fan club doesn’t impress me. The Soccer-Mom is a failure when it comes to accountability at One Police Plaza. I’ve publicly challenged my NYPD ICARD as unlawful and retaliatory, explaining how a mass-distributed newsletter became the supposed predicate for a felony arrest alert.

That challenge concerns my freedom, livelihood, and ability to report in New York. Lange describes the powerful interests protecting Tisch’s position; none should insulate her department from answering for its conduct. I want this HACK sacked and a successor who will confront the record, remove the bogus ICARD, and hold responsible officials accountable. Political endorsements cannot discharge a police commissioner’s duty to protect civil liberties.

I don’t doubt the injustice of your predicament, but if turns out Mamdani is one of the few non-85yo socialists who understands the working class: They value safe streets and subways over the civil liberties of niche journalists and the activist class.

If and when he fires Tisch, it will be because of a rise in crime or egregiously mishandled police brutality—i.e. something that renders her politically damaged enough not to be a threat in the next election.

"banish a rogue agency from the streets of Upper Manhattan."

No, he does not have the power to set federal immigration policies, or naturalize foreign nationals who are not authorized to be in the US.

Michael, passionate, perhaps you can negotiate the increasingly yawning abyss… there really is no choice, the uber DSA bros owe their new found political power to Z … and when faced with a choice, an easy choice, Jessica (and her mom) is the choice. The Tisch family are major players in NYC/NYS politics, Merryl heads the SUNY board, formerly led the Board of Regents… and a leading advocate for John King, currently SUNY chancellor and politically ambitious.

As a student of the history of the left I reminded of Lenin/Trotsky/Stalin …

Jessica, maybe a future mayoral candidate, is far more important to Z than his SDA bros, he has to step away from them and establish his own island.
