As the race for Governor of New York State tightens, all eyes shift to the five boroughs. What type of coalition will Lee Zeldin build? Should Kathy Hochul be concerned?
I don't normally succumb to the media's histrionics but even I have been worried about this election. I can't see how Zeldin could win after reading your piece. Not sure why the media can't just do the work you did instead of breathlessly hyping this race. I do think that pretty much regardless of the result - anywhere within 4 percent - they will crown Zeldin as a new future star and leader of the GOP.
I actively didn't vote for Eric Adams and told my peers to do the same, and I've already voted for Hochul, which is to say Adams' 2021 absolutely left votes on the floor, beyond the generally AWFUL turnout in that election. We'll see what the results are on Tuesday but the media coverage of this race feels like it was jumping the skis to make it close and I'm curious how many city dems are voting who weren't keen to vote even a month ago.
What jumps out at me is "rest of the state" has to run through Westchester and the Hudson Valley, where Ds are both stronger and better organized than on Long Island.

Well said.
