You note that a great tv ad is a good way to reach voters, especially older ones who might be in the Cuomo camp. I agree, and it's a shame that the tv ads the non-Cuomo candidates have put up thus far are pretty bad, imo
It's disappointed no one was interested in credibly taking up the technocratic centrist lane besides Cuomo. I've hated him for a long time but will be reluctantly voting for him anyway.
Brad Lander is also a technocrat. He knows the ins and outs of policy details to an impressive degree. He also values smart, efficiently functioning operations. Lander is not a centrist but he is a thoughtful, serious person. Throughout the campaign he's said his #1 priority is getting mentally ill homeless people off the streets, including by involuntarily committing them. As you can imagine this does not please many on the left.
As you know, Cuomo is, among other things, weighed down by scandals. If you already hate Cuomo, do you worry at all that these scandals and his general narcissism and openness to corruption will make him vulnerable to manipulation by Trump? (as well as inherently awful)
I hate them all, to be honest with you. Lander is too woke for me though. He seems like a true believer in all of the far left criminal justice reforms we've had. Whereas Cuomo just went along with it because he is a slimeball. The former is actually worse though.
Thanks, I've looked at him a bit and will probably rank him. Seems to have tracked to the center a little opportunistically given his previous fairly typical lefty record on crime and public safety. Better than nothing though.
He's my number one because he's gotten over 60 bills passed since 2019—he's really good at working with a lot of different people and getting their buy-in for ideas that help real New Yorkers. If that's tracking to the center, then that's the kind I'm okay with because he really is getting real things done that benefit a lot of people.
Uhhh is there a reason you think she should only endorse 3, and leave off the FOURTH candidate that WFP endorsed (Myrie)?
I get that Adams has surged but she hasn't even unlocked matching funds. What is up with the technocrat analysts ignoring a candidate who CAN pull voters away from Cuomo and who has an established campaign going with TV ads, posters, and a robust phonebanking and canvassing operation?
I agree that she should heed the lessons from 2021 because we cannot have a repeat of that. And I also agree that endorsing someone before early voting and with enough time to allow for mailers to be printed and go out is key.
This piece is making the mistake of assuming Cuomo is leading because people love him, but it's mostly because most New Yorkers despise the left (I mean come on, their champion is a guy who *refused to condemn the Holocaust*) and he's the most visible alternative.
Trump sucks up all the local political air, the mayoral election lacks passion, Landor is disappointing, baring another scandal Cuomo appears to be an easy winner, The best endorsement is probably Brunson after an NBA crown. The union with the must clout, the UFT(teachers vote) is cautious, the last two endorsements, Thompson and Stringer, came. to naught, Cuomo is a far less forgiving fellow.
As a friend noted, “Cuomo’s a prick, but our kind of prick”

Check out Zellnor Myrie.

Thank you for looking him up!!
